Music icon Stevie Wonder has officially been named the #1 Greatest R&B Artiste of All Time by Billboard’s editorial staff, topping a new list that celebrates the most influential voices and visionaries in R&B history.
The announcement comes as part of Billboard’s Greatest of All Time: R&B Artistes ranking, which honors artistes whose contributions have shaped the genre over decades. Joining Stevie Wonder in the top five are fellow legends Aretha Franklin (#2), Michael Jackson (#3), Beyoncé (#4), and Whitney Houston (#5).
Stevie Wonder’s extraordinary career spans more than six decades, beginning with his debut at age 11 under Motown Records. Known for timeless hits like SUPERSTITION, RIBBON IN THE SKY, ISN’T SHE LOVELY and AS, Stevie Wonder’s sound blends soul, funk, jazz, and pop into a signature style that has influenced generations of artists. He has earned 25 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, and a Presidential Medal of Freedom, among countless other honors.
Billboard praised Wonder as a “true visionary,” commending his groundbreaking songwriting, pioneering use of synthesizers, and powerful messages of love, equality, and humanity.
