Mariah Carey’s Christmas Song Breaks Billboard Record

Mariah Carey is making chart history once again. Her beloved holiday anthem ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS has now clinched an unprecedented 20 weeks at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100, making it officially the longest‑running chart‑topping single in the history of the iconic U.S. singles chart.

With this milestone, Mariah Carey has reclaimed the torch from Lil Nas X, whose 2019 smash OLD TOWN ROAD previously held the record at 19 weeks, and cemented her legacy as one of the most enduring artists in popular music.

First released in 1994 on her holiday album MERRY CHRISTMAS, ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS didn’t reach Number one until 2019 due to changes in Billboard’s chart eligibility rules and the explosion of streaming. Since then, the festive classic has returned to the top spot each holiday season, slowly accumulating weeks at number one across multiple years.

Upon learning of the achievement,  Mariah Carey took to Instagram, captioning a celebratory photo, “Humbly taking back the torch!! 20 weeks at #1… I’m so grateful ❤️.” Her message captured both pride and humility as fans around the world cheered the record‑breaking moment.

Music critics and fans alike see this latest milestone as a testament to Mariah Carey’s unparalleled influence on pop culture. ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS, now a perennial holiday staple, continues to resonate with new generations of listeners, making it not just a seasonal favorite but a decades‑spanning phenomenon that transcends time and trends.

With Christmas approaching and streaming figures strong, there’s speculation the song could extend its record even further in the years to come, an enduring legacy for a song that has become synonymous with the holiday season itself.
