Senegalese-American star Akon has pointed out that most artistes are not as wealthy as many perceive.
According to Akon, the flashy and glamorous lifestyle displayed by artistes on Social media and in music is not the reality on the ground as most are not stable financially.
The Smack that singer made the claim in an interview with Hip Hop Eye, saying although music is lucrative, the executives and those behind the productions are those who make the money and not the artistes.
“In the music industry, the artiste is the last to get paid. He is the broke one, but he is the most famous. If you want to be broke and famous, be an artiste,” he said.
His comments have sparked conversations on how artistes are viewed and the right remuneration they deserve for their works.
